Listen to her story:
Domestic violence victims can approach their past and future through photography.
This is what photographer PaoPao is doing with her latest project called Broken Free. She photographs victims as they tell their story and incorporates photo collages put together by the person.
“It´s called Broken Free,” she said. “The word is a transition where in the past you are broken, and you are working your way to break free. And at the end, that is the finished product, freedom.”
She has incorporated her two passions, photography and helping people, to let people tell their stories through art. She hopes that this project can spread to other cities and create awareness for domestic violence.
PaoPao was a victim of this violence a few years ago, but her passion helped her overcome that time of her life.
“I can do something that will help me heal,” she said. “And not just me, but other people as well.”
Her goal in life is to make a difference with her art. She hopes her photos can change the world one person at a time.
